Nine days into the school year, the 7th grade and their advisors divided into groups and went on a three-hour neighborhood scavenger hunt -- a "bonding" exercise that tested their math and critical thinking skills.

Panther Sports On a Winning Streak

Passwords, Portals, and Going Green

Divisional parent portals are being activated. Upper School and Middle School are already "live" and others will soon follow. Pick up a fact sheet at the front desk about required User Names and Passwords or send an e-mail and we will e-mail instructions back to you.

All forms and information for the first days of school and the new academic year are online. This includes required summer reading lists, health forms, the school calendar, handbook and more -- now in one location on the new parent portal at the top of the homepage.

Commemorating the 9/11 Anniversary

Onward and Upward with Expansion

Exciting work is under way this summer to support the strategic expansion of the school. The Family Center moves to 189 Schermerhorn Street, and more than 8,000 square feet of space is being renovated at 375 Pearl Street.

Recommended Reading for Parents

This summer, in preparation for the year-long Quaker Self Study, BFS faculty and staff were asked to read Robert Lawrence Smith’s A Quaker Book of Wisdom.  Throughout the school year, many events for families (including a possible book club opportunity) will relate in some way to our Quaker life at BFS.  Therefore, parents are also encouraged to read the book to kick start the community-wide process of reflection and discovery.  Please see flyer for more information.

Commencement for the Class of 2011

The accent was on history when Brooklyn Friends held commencement exercises for 49 members of the Class of 2011 in a beloved Brooklyn landmark on June 6.

20 Questions for a Legendary Teacher

He taught English and History for 30 years at BFS and continued his association with the school through Brooklyn Monthly Meeting and currently as a member of the school's Board of Trustees. Read a "20 Questions" interview with Martin Norregaard, the honoree at Alumni Day on June 4.

Make Way, MoMA

The BFS Art Show Is Coming to Town -- Everyone's invited to the All-School Student Art Show, which opens on Friday at 5 pm with a reception and continues through Wed. May 25, 8 am to 5 pm in the lower gym. Prepare to be dazzled by this annual "feast for the eyes."
