Summer Camp

Director:  Taunya Black
Ages: 2 to 8
Summer is a special time in a child’s life. At Brooklyn Friends Summer Camp, young campers ages 2 to 8 experience a variety of classes, activities and field trips designed to cultivate individual interests and talents. In our safe, nurturing environment, both individual expression and respect for others are encouraged, and lasting friendships are made. Summer Camp programming at BFS is specialized according to age group.

Family Center Camp offers our youngest campers (age 2) a relaxed camp experience. Their days are designed by skillful preschool teachers to provide a balance between structured activities, free play, and rest. In our safe, caring environment children interact with friends, create art, listen to stories, and play with materials that enhance their skills. Family Center children will also splish and splash in the wading pools on the rooftop playground. Each Friday, Family Center campers will have a music and movement class, led by an experienced Music Together instructor.

Preschool Summer Camp offers 3 and 4 year old campers a nurturing environment in which to enjoy their summer days with friends. Our caring, experienced teachers encourage creativity, individual expression, and positive social interaction through activities ranging from painting, drawing and collage, to gardening and cooking, to storytelling, free, and dramatic play. Hot summer days are punctuated by daily visits to the rooftop playground where children cool off in our wading pools and sprinklers.

Our preschool campers also enjoy weekly specialty classes including tennis, music & movement, hands-on science, and yoga. In addition to everyday fun and specialized classes, our preschool campers will also receive a special visitor in their classroom each Friday. Visitors will include clowns, music makers, magicians, story weavers, and puppeteers.

K-2 Summer Camp offers our oldest campers an enriching experience through a variety of activities, specialty classes, and field trips designed to encourage creative exploration, physical awareness, and positive social interaction. Specialty classes and activities will include Art, Science, Group Games, Cooking, Swimming, Tennis, Gardening, Music, and Movement. Ample time will also be given for free play in the classroom and on the rooftop playground.

Every Monday, K-2 campers will travel to Brooklyn Bridge Park for an afternoon of outdoor fun. On Fridays, K-2 campers will take field trips to exciting city destinations like the Transit Museum, Melody Lanes, New York Hall of Science, Queens County Farm, and The Central Park Zoo. On the last day of Summer Camp, all campers will be invited to join us for a Carnival and lunch celebration.
