Date: 7:00 p.m. Monday October 27
Speaker: Roni Cohen-Sandler
Topic: The Inner Lives of Teens
Dr. Cohen-Sandler will talk about the inner lives of teenagers,
offering insights and strategies to decrease their stress, boost their
resilience, and facilitate their success in and out of the classroom. A
clinical psychologist and consultant, Dr. Cohen-Sandler specializes in
the issues of parenting adolescents, mother-daughter relationships, and
learning disorders. Her books include Trust Me, Mom, Everyone Else Is
Going; I’m Not Mad, I Just Hate You; and Stressed Out Girls.
Cohen-Sandler will speak to the faculty in the afternoon.

Speaker Elizabeth Bailey
Topic: Money at Home and in the School Yard
Elizabeth Bailey is a family therapist and a member of the
Ackerman Institute for the Family’s project on Money, Values and Family
Life. Her talk will explore the role of money in creating peer pressure
among children, the tyranny of brand names, and classmates who show
off.

Speaker: Jane Katch
Topic: They Don’t Like Me: Play, Boys and Girls
Jane Katch will explore all kinds of play, including children’s
violent fantasies and aggressive behavior, as well as the ways boys and
girls experiment with power in school and some approaches for creating
a community that defies bullying. Katch is the author of Under Dead
Man’s Skin: Discovering the Meaning of Children’s Violent Play and They
Don’t Like Me: Lessons on Bullying and Teasing from a Preschool
Classroom.
