Brooklyn Friends School requires seniors to undertake a full-time
volunteer work placement for a period of five weeks (May 18 – June 5)
prior to graduation. We believe that this work experience is valuable
in helping students define their career goals and assists in the
transition from high school to college.
In the past, our seniors have worked in investment banks, schools,
law firms, media companies, local government and non-profit
organizations.
Seniors are encouraged to identify a field of work which interests
them and, where possible, to organize their own internship. Students
who are unable to arrange an internship on their own are invited to
choose from a list of organizations and individuals who have
volunteered to host a Brooklyn Friends intern. Many of these
internships are volunteered by Brooklyn Friends parents and friends of
the school.
In order to offer all our seniors the widest possible selection of
work placements and better match their interests, we ask that parents
and alumni/ae consider volunteering an internship at their place of
employment and/or approach friends and family to help.
The only criteria that must be met are: the internship must last
for five full weeks; and the student must be employed for between 20
and 30 hours/week.
If you think that you may be able to provide an internship or have
any suggestions as to sources of possible internships, please contact
Keith Sequeira, Coordinator of Senior Internships, by April 15, 2009.
