Letter from the Head Search Committee |
| |
|
Dear Members of the Brooklyn Friends School Community:
I hope your children have settled nicely into the new school year and
are enjoying their classes. I write to update you on the search for our
next Head of School. As of Friday, October 9th, all of our
semi-finalists will have visited Brooklyn Friends. From this group of
six, three candidates will advance to the finalist round. We expect to
announce the finalists by Friday, October 16th.
These three candidates will return to our school for another intensive
series of interviews, most likely beginning the week of October 26th.
In this last round, candidates will visit with us for several days so
that they have the opportunity to meet with all members of our
community, including parents/family members, alumni, students, faculty,
staff, administration, and the Board of Trustees. Everyone will have an
opportunity to provide feedback to the Search Committee following these
visits.
We will try to provide as much advance notice as possible for the open
meetings for faculty, staff, parents and family members; however,
please be aware that the schedule will vary, as it is dependent on each
individual candidate’s availability. The current plan is for the
faculty/staff open sessions to take place after school; sessions for
parents and families will likely take place mid-week in the early
evening. These meetings will last 90 minutes. The bulk of the session
will be devoted to questions from the floor, following some brief
remarks by the candidate. Please make every effort to attend; the
Search Committee would like to hear feedback from as many members of
our community as possible. We also want to show our candidates what an
engaged and engaging community we are. Watch for further communications
through e-news and the PAT. Childcare and homework help will be
provided for all open sessions in the evening.
We appreciate the flexibility and patience of our entire community as
we move forward in this process. We know you are eager to meet the
candidates. They are an impressive group, and we are confident that
among them is someone who will continue the great work Michael Nill has
begun and lead our community to be even better than it already is.
We would remind you that until we have formally announced our
finalists, it is important to be discrete about those who have visited
the school and respect the fact that their interest in the Head’s
position has not been widely shared within their own communities. If
candidates do not progress to the finalist stage, but their
constituents learn by word of mouth of their interest in another
school, it could be hurtful to their school community. Please keep
their confidence until we move to the finalist stage.
In Friendship,
