Girls Varsity Volleyball
The Girls VB team completed another successful, fun, and rewarding
season. We started the year with 8 players, and ended with 13 due to
the cancellation of the JV team. This was a bitter/sweet situation.
It was bitter because this is the first year that we didn't have a JV
team; but, at the same time it was sweet because we had a great,
enthusiastic team who wanted to learn the game and play to the best of
their ability. It was terrific to see the growth and progress of each
member throughout the season. The future promises to be bright for our
young squad. We had three seniors, Maqueda, Serra, and Asha, who gave
a great effort in every game, one junior, Abbi, who joined the sport
for her first time, one freshman, Herron, who showed great promise,
and eight sophomores, Amaris, Katie, Zoe, Jessica, Erin, Shani, Sonja,
and Lisa, who promise to carry on the BFS volleyball tradition with
their skills and dedication to the sport. Overall, it was highly
rewarding and exciting experience.
Boys Varsity Cross Country
Kieran N. and the cross
country team had quite a successful 2009 campaign. The team finished
3rd place in the ACIS Championships, its highest place ever. Kieran,
a junior, was second overall with a time of 13:59 on the hilly Van
Cortlandt Park 4K course. The team has been bolstered by a powerful
group of sophomores led by Larry and Alan. BFS will
compete in the NYSAIS Championships on November 8th. Kieran will be
looking to nab a qualifying position for the New York Federation
Championships. The team looks to be strong again next year, as they
graduate zero seniors from this 2009 squad.
Girls Varsity Soccer
Girls Soccer had one of the best seasons in years. The team was lead
by senior captain Sophia, whose tireless efforts up and down
the field were exhausting to watch. The team was lead in scoring by
junior midfield/forward Molly who had six goals in ten
games. Also sophomore sensation Madeleyn who had scored six
goals in 2008 ended the season with tailing five goals. The team was
supported by excellent goalkeeping play by freshman Janna .
Without her the team would of not been able to compete in every game.
The defense was lead by juniors Hannah and Beatrice.
Eighth grader Olivia P. held the midfield together with her play
and helped keep the team keep possession of the ball. This year the
team was helped in part of the dual sport playing Zoe. Zoe has
played on various club teams and is currently on the highly competitive
Gotham Girls. The team tailed sixteen goals this year surpassing the
last five seasons combined. With the loss of one senior and the
incoming of numerous players from the Middle School, the team will have
lofty goals for next year with an eye on finishing in the top four of
the PSAA in 2010. "Great season!" to all the Girl’s Varsity Soccer
players: Senior: Sophia, Junior: Molly, Miriam, Krystal, Hannah, Beatrice, Sophomores:
Zoe , Madelyn , Jun, Oona, Victoria, Freshmen: Janna, Sophia, Hanyang, Eighth
Grader: Olivia P.
Boys Varsity Soccer
This was a hard-fought year for boys
varsity soccer. Led by the tireless Morgan, the boys showed a lot
of heart and pulled out a few good results with a young team. Conway
was a stalwart all season in goal, and mightily contributed to
our ability to compete. With ever-improving young players like Theo,
Noah, Larry, and Misha backing a core of
solid Juniors returning, next season is sure to be one of improved
results, especially with the most dangerous forward in the league,
Owen, looking to snatch the scoring title in his senior season.
Middle School Volleyball
The team had a magical season and the team grew closer as a
group. All of the 21 players deserve to be congratulated for their
hard work and how much they grew skill wise. We had some tough matches,
especially vs. Berkeley Carroll and Claremont Prep, but the team dug in
and won the deciding third game in each case. Beating Steiner to become
league champions and York Prep in the playoffs was a wonderful way to
end the season.
Middle School Soccer
The team competed for the first time in a league. The players did
a great job and worked hard giving full effort. One of the issues we
had during the season was having our full squad on game days. We want
to thank our 8th grade players for their efforts the last two years and
we are looking forward to our 7th graders returning next year with a
new crop of 6th graders.
