Horizons Students to Join Afterschool Program
September 4, 2011

Dear Parents,

By now you have received your Afterschool brochure or viewed it on the school website. We are excited to be offering some of your old favorites along with many new and interesting specialty classes. If you have not already registered, please do so as soon as possible. We are continuing to accept registrations, but cannot guarantee that your choices are available since the August 26th deadline has already passed.

With the expansion of the Lower School, we anticipate that many children will be joining us in our playgroups. With this in mind, we have added to our general program staff. Starting this fall each playgroup will be led by two teachers.

We also want to let you know about a very exciting new initiative for the coming school year. Starting this fall, the Afterschool program at Brooklyn Friends School will open a few spots in several afterschool classes for Horizons at Brooklyn Friends students in grades 1 through 4. Funding for this initiative has been provided by the New York-based Adeona Foundation. We are very excited to welcome our Horizons students into our Afterchool community, which will make Horizons at BFS a year-round initiative and an integral part of our school.

The addition of the Horizons students to the Afterschool program fully supports the philosophy and core values of BFS that speaks to service, community building, and diversity. We see this initiative as a wonderful opportunity to create the foundation for both BFS students and Horizons at BFS students to function and thrive in a culturally diverse society.

Please feel free to contact the Afterschool Office at extension 228 if you have any questions.

In Friendship,
Taunya Black, Director of Afterschool Programs, Horizons Co-Executive Director
Rachel Webber, Chair, Auxiliary Programs, Horizons Co-Executive Director
Jeff Strack, Afterschool Administrator
Dr. Larry Weiss, Head of School
