Highlights from the Week of Sept. 26, 2011 |
| |
|
9/27 On Monday the BFS Girls Varsity Soccer team
defeated Friends Seminary 3-0. The team scored two early goals in the
first half and defended well to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
Madeleyn V. first goal was a tidy finish in the 6-yard box, pouncing on
a failed clearance, her 2nd goal was much more impressive. Picking the
ball up from a Clara S. throw-in, Madeleyn set off on a mazy dribble,
after dribbling through three tackles the ball broke nicely 18 yards
from goal and Madeleyn hit a sweetly struck shot over the goalkeeper to
take her total to 4 goals in 4 games. With only one substitute
available in the second half, the players began to tire, but worked
extremely hard as a team to stifle the opponents attacks. Lotte W.
extended the lead to 3-0 (with her first goal for BFS) latching onto
Olivia P. through ball. With the goalkeeper advancing, Lotte scooped
the ball over the goalkeeper's head and lobbed it into the goal. A
wonderful finish! Late on, freshman Aoife H. missed a penalty to extend
the score to four, but credit to the Friends Seminary goalkeeper for
making a good save. The defensive unit of Victoria L., Louisa G., Julia
G., Clara as well as goalkeeper Sophie A. should be very proud of the
clean-sheet they posted. Our midfield of Julia B., Olivia, Lotte and
tireless effort from Sarah F. fought well, and our strikeforce of Mimi
G. , Maret S-M, Madeleyn and Aoife always looked dangerous on the
break. It was a great win for the program. The BFS JV Girls Volleyball team
started off the week with a win against Claremont Prep. The girls won
in 2 sets, 25-17, 25-6. Right from the start the girls came ready and
eager to play. They brought the energy, they were extremely
enthusiastic. The team is becoming stronger mentally and physically.
Carrie M. helped lead the team to victory in the first set with 10
service points. In the second set Fiona S. and Sophia S. had a combined
total of 15 service points. All 12 team members participated and
everyone came out a winner. Thanks to all of the students, parents, and
fans who came out to watch the match and support the program. Without
everybody working together, the team would not be as unified and as
consistent as it is. Blue Pride!!
