10/4/11 On Monday the BFS Girls Varsity Volleyball team defeated Churchill 2-0 (25-20, 25-18) on the road. The team was inconsistent after the long weekend, but still managed to pull out the victory. During the second set the girls got into a better rhythm of play. Seniors Jessica C. and Katie C. combined combined for 7 serving aces, and 12 digs. Katie also added 4 kills; Backy G. chipped in with 2 kills, and Amaris B. contributed with 4 assists and 6 digs. Herron H., Anna M., Sarah M., and Chloe B. provided consistent overall play on both offense and defense.
The BFS MS Girls Volleyball team posted another win on Monday, defeating Churchill School 2-0 (25-11, 25-12) at BFS. The girls had a great start and kept with it. Julian F. brought her captain attitude and controlled the match with her serve. The girls played as a team which allowed them to keep the winning streak going. Go Panthers!!
The long weekend didn't slow down the BFS MS Soccer team. Undefeated BFS went up against a league opponent (also undefeated) in a match that could have championship implications. After the long weekend the coaching staff was concerned about getting off to a slow start, but that just wasn't the case as 8th grader Paolo F. put in the team's first goal in at the 6:55 mark when he rushed in past the goalie to chip in an easy 5 footer. From there the Panthers got on a roll scoring two more goals in the first half and three in the second half for a smooth sailing 6-0 victory. Paolo scored another goal in the game for his team leading 9th goal of the season in just his fourth game played. 7th grader Mali A. scored a goal in the second half for her first goal of the season and her BFS career. But the star of the game was 7th grader Charlie S. who had the "hat trick" (3 goals) to lead the team. 7th grader Halima M. also had a big game assisting on three of the six goals. The team is currently 5-0 (4-0 ISAL League).
The BFS Boys Varsity Cross Country teams participated in the Dwight Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park. Freshmen Marcus A. ran a time of 24:06 finishing in 55th place and Jacob I. ran a time of 24:08 finishing in 57th place out of 97 total runners.
The BFS MS Boys & Girls Cross Country team ran in an ISAL League Meet also at Van Cortlandt Park. The middle school kids continue to excel. Phillip C. ran a gutsy race. He stuck his nose in with the leader. He hung on and finished 3rd place with a time of 8:40. Emmett S. came in 5th place with a time of 8:43, while Miles N. ran a time of 9:06 coming in 7th. Kamal G. continues to push himself hard, he finished in 17th place with a time of 10:40 out of 28 total runners. On the girls side, Naomi M. ran a time of 10:13, finishing in 6th place out of 11 total runners.
10/6/11 The BFS MS Girls Volleyball team won their 6th straight match on Wednesday in the upper gym. They defeated Dwight 2-0 (25-13, 25-15. 8th grader Jaden M-B contributed with nine service points, and played awesome defense along with Taty R. and Abby M. Congrats to 7th grader Elise A. -- she put her first ever serve over the net for BFS - an accomplishment celebrated by the entire team!
The BFS Girls JV Volleyball team beat Dwight in two straight sets with great determination (25-15, 27-25). Great setting by Simret H. & Tyler C. along with consistent serving by Sofia S. who gave the team 9 straight service points. Kyla O. had some awesome hits while the other team members showed great spirit and team work to get the job done. Go Panthers!
The BFS Girls Varsity Volleyball team also defeated Dwight 2-0 (25-14, 25-16) in the upper gym. It was an all around well played game by the team. Middle hitters Becky G. and Herron H. combined for 7 kills. Setters Amaris B. and Katie C. contributed with 9 assists and 5 kills. Katie also added 4 serving aces. Defensive outside hitter, Jessica C. played great contributing with 12 digs. Supporting players Chloe B., Sarah M., and Erin C. again played a consistent all around game out of the back row. The team showed great focus and determination against a competitive team.
The BFS Girls Varsity Soccer team defeated LWA 7-0 in the return fixture down at Red Hook. BFS scored four goals in the first 10 minutes of the game, with two goals from Madeleyn V. and one a piece from Olivia P. and our former goalie Janna P. (her first goal in 3 seasons). Two early goals in the second half from freshmen Aoife H. and Maret S-M made it 6-0, before a fortuitous 7th goal, scored again by Maret for her 2nd of the game. BFS recorded it's 3rd win (3-4) and kept a 3rd clean sheet of season. Olivia 2, Madeleyn, Aoife, Maret, Julia.B. picked up assists. Blue Pride!!
The BFS MS Boys & Girls Cross Country team ran in an ISAL League Meet also at Van Cortlandt Park. Phillip C. led the way finishing in 1st place with a time of 8:23. Miles N. came in 4th place with a time of 8:43 and Emmett S. came in 5th place with a time of 8:44 out of 14 total runners. On the girls side, Grace G. ran a time of 11:15, finishing in 8th place and Mason L. ran a time of 11:58 coming in 10th place out of 14 total runners.
The BFS Girls /Boys Varsity Cross Country Team also participated in a meet at Van Cortlandt Park. Freshman Giovanna M. ran a time of 25:54 coming in 3rd place and sophomore Elinor H. ran a time of 29:06 finishing in 4th place out of 12 total runners.
10/7/11 On Thursday the BFS MS Soccer team bounced back from a tough loss (their first loss) the previous day. The Panthers bounce back 3-0 win came against Brooklyn Heights Montessori down at Red Hook. The fist goal came at the 2:00 minute mark by 8th grader Noah W. Shortly after 8th grader Henry J. scored on a terrific header off of a Halima M. corner kick. The third goal was scored in the second half when 7th grader Halima M. stole a goal kick and cashed it in for the final goal. Along with his first half goal, Henry combined with Sam H. (8th) in the goal for the shutout. The team improved its overall record to 6-1. Go Panthers!! The BFS Girls Varsity Soccer team tied 1-1 with United Nations School down at Red Hook. It was a close encounter between the two teams, with the result being a fair reflection on both teams' efforts to get the victory. UNIS took the lead in the 14th minute through an unfortunate goalkeeping error, but BFS showed great determination and courage to bounce back in the second half. BFS was able equalize things with a corner turned in by Julia G. in the 60th minute. The team had a number of opportunities to take the lead, hitting the post once, and missing a clear cut chance late in the game. The girls are steadily improving and are now 3-4-1, and undefeated in the last three games. Blue Pride!!
The BFS Girls Varsity Volleyball team defeated St. Ann's 2-0 (25-13, 25-17) on the road. It was a great team effort. The team is showing that it really understands how to play consistently against the better teams. Amaris B. and Katie C. combined for 13 assists, 2 aces, and 20 digs. Outside hitters Jessica C. and Anna M. did a great job on offense and defense, combining for 3 kills and 13 digs. Middle hitters Becky G. and Herron H. contributed with 5 kills. Chloe B., Sarah M., and Erin C. again provided great overall play from the back row. Blue Pride!! 10/8/11
The BFS MS Volleyball team came out on top in an evenly played 3 set match with Steiner in the upper gym on Friday The team came back after losing the first set to win their 7th straight match of the season 2-1 (17-25, 25-18, 25-19) to remain undefeated. Eighth grade captains Caroline C. and Nell P. showed great leadership throughout the match, moving beautifully on both offense and defense. All team members contributed to the win - Blue Pride! Ruby P. was 'on fire' behind the service line, contributing eight service points. Newcomer Lily I. did an excellent job serving and passing, in her first game one start of the season.
