Simple and Powerful
There will be a schoolwide celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. this year on  Friday, Jan. 13 and Tuesday, Jan. 17. To honor Dr. King in the spirit of Quaker listening and query his "I Have a Dream" speech will be played in the lobby on Friday morning. As students and families arrive at school, they will be asked to listen in silence. The following Tuesday (after Monday's holiday) kiosks will be set up in which children, faculty, staff and parents reflect, through pictures and brief messages, on Dr. King and the meaning of the holiday. Please contribute to the kiosks by sharing your favorite pictures, quote(s) and/or resources that capture the essence of Dr. King by sending an e-mail to simpleandpowerful@brooklynfriends.org.

A Big Postscript to the Winter Festival
I
n the whirl of reporting on the PAT Winter Festival, we neglected to mention that approximately 600 holiday toys and gifts were collected, wrapped, and delivered to the St. John's Place Family Center, and that the holiday book fair was a great success, netting several thousand dollars. The librarians were able to purchase many new books for the library and donate a significant amount of new books to the Horizons at BFS program. In addition, the Horizons students who visited the Winter Festival all went home with free books. Thank you to the many families who participated in the toy drive and supported the book fair!
