Early Notification Option for Legacy Applications
to Preschool, Kindergarten, Grade 1

1. EARLY NOTIFICATION PLAN for Preschool, Kindergarten, and grade 1.

In keeping with the established guidelines of the Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York, Brooklyn Friends School may offer an early notification option to legacies—siblings, children of alumni, faculty and staff, and members of the NY Quarterly Meeting. This permits us to notify families with children applying to Preschool, Kindergarten and Grade 1 on Friday, January 11, 2008, provided that applications are received by the deadlines and the application process has been completed by December 14, 2007. If you decide to take advantage of this option, the expectation is that if the child is accepted, the child will attend Brooklyn Friends School.

If you attend to apply for admission for a legacy candidate, you must notify the admissions office of your intention and apply by November 30, 2007. If you don’t choose early notification, you may still apply as part of the regular admissions process. We encourage families to consider other school placements in the event that BFS is unable to offer enrollment to the child.

Be aware of deadlines. Please complete the early notification form and return to the Admissions Office promptly but no later than November 30, 2007. Application should be made as soon as possible.

To receive legacy consideration, students must be:

Siblings—brother or sister to someone who is currently enrolled in BFS and will be enrolled the following school year.

Children of alumni—applicants whose parents(s) graduated from the 12th grade at BFS.

Children of faculty & staff—applicant’s parent(s) must be currently employed at BFS.

Members of the Religious Society of Friends—parents of the applicant must be members of the New York Quarterly Meeting. Quaker families who are members of other Meetings will be given priority after the members of the NY Quarterly Meeting.
