The Apprentice: Brooklyn Friends School Edition |
|
For over 140 years, the faculty of Brooklyn Friends School (BFS) have encouraged learning, creativity, and personal growth. It’s in that spirit that BFS is proud to announce that students entering Grades 8 and 9 are eligible to enroll in The Junior Artist Program – a new curriculum within the Summer Arts Program designed to partner students with the very best artists in their field.
For up to two hours every day, students become “junior artists,” and even apprentices, to some of the finest artists New York City and the world have to offer. Each “master art class” is crafted to allow students time to fully explore and immerse themselves in comprehensive creative development.
“We’re extremely honored and excited to start this innovative program at BFS,” said Summer Arts Director Rachel Webber. “Each student will work with a professional artist and by the summer’s end they’ll be transformed by the artistic process.”
Students enrolled in the 2011 program will have the opportunity to study documentary filmmaking, alternative photography, and drawing with renowned artists Sam Bathrick, Lisa Elmaleh, and Elizabeth Deull. In addition to their hands-on experience with the artists, students will also assist teachers in classes, play and interact with the younger Summer Arts students (ages 8-12), go swimming and participate in all field trips.
BFS has proudly educated young artists with its Summer Arts Program for the past nine years. With continuing innovations like the Junior Artist Program, Summer Arts continues to receive outstanding praise from students and parents citywide.
