“All Together Now” for the All-School
Holiday Sing
Singing together, one of the joys of childhood, was shared by
every member of the school community on the morning of December
16 in the Lower Gym, at the All-School Holiday Sing. Led
by science teacher Janet Villas, other members of the faculty,
and Upper school performers, this is one of the most joyful and
memorable events of the school year. Lower School choral singers,
directed by their teacher Piper MacLeod, had their first
public performance and sang a beautiful song in Hebrew. Other popular
tunes included
“Rudolf,” “We Need a Little Christmas” from
the Broadway show “Mame,” and “Feliz Navidad.”
The culmination of the event was an amazing rendition of the “Twelve
Days of Christmas.” Each day is assigned to a corresponding
class with first graders as a partridge in a pear tree, fifth graders
as five golden rings, and twelfth graders as twelve drummers drumming.
Classes stand, sing their part, and do a brief pantomime every
time their number is called. For the first graders this is an awesome
responsibility as they pop up twelve times in the course of the
song.
