Bringing Out the Best
in Baseball
May 23 was a special day for Athletic Director David
Gardella and Varsity Baseball Coach Johnny
Cusato. First, they saw the boys
varsity baseball team wrap up their season with a victory over
Churchill School and the first no-hitter in the school’s
history thrown by senior pitcher Tim Gagnay (photo
at right). Later that night, Johnny caught up with the Yankees
game on TV and tuned in to the YES network’s reality show, “Ultimate
Road Trip.” Brooklyn
Friends alumnus Julio Pabón ’98 is
one of the four stars on the show this season, and on that night
he was “wearing” his
connection to the school in a BFS baseball T-shirt (photo below)
sent to him by David and Alumni Director Susan
Price. The athletic
department hopes that Julio will be able to visit with the Middle
and Upper School student body next fall when he completes his 150-game
odyssey.

Senior Tim Gagnay’s no hitter in the final game was made
possible by excellent defensive plays by Artyom
Milius, Ripton Rosen and David Bess.
The win enabled the team to finish the season with a 7–7 record.
On May 25, team captain Daniel Eden (below right)
played in the senior ALL-STAR game in the Bronx with a team of
all-stars from the ACIS and PSAA leagues versus a team of all-stars
from the IVY PREP league.
Congratulations to following players, who earned post-season awards:
Daniel Eden—1st Team ALL-CONFERENCE
Artyom Milius—1st Team ALL-CONFERENCE
Tim Gagnay—Hon. Mention ALL-CONFERENCE
Ripton Rosen—Hon. Mention ALL-CONFERENCE
Middle and Upper School Sports Wrap-Up Collections will be held
on Tuesday May 30, and Fall 2006 practice and game schedules can
now be found online at www.highschoolsports.net.
