A Chilly Day in Coney Island for BFS Baseball Brooklyn Friends School’s third annual trip to Keyspan Park in Coney Island on April 25 was exciting, memorable—and chilly! With overcast weather and an outdoor temperature in the 40s (talk about climate change!), the Panthers took to the park’s large, verdant field to play ball against the Heschel High School team. In the stands, there were more than 50 parents, students, faculty and staff on hand to cheer the team on. A strong contingent of upper school students (many of whom wore their game faces) led the cheering section, and several of our youngest students learned that day what it means to be a Panther fan. The game was notable for the debut of the Brooklyn Friends School’s mascot, Panther Pride, who was a home-run hitter in enthusiasm and endurance. While the BFS fans outnumbered Heschel’s by 3,000%, a different story played out on the field. Heschel’s team scored 7 runs in the second inning and won the game, 14-4, over the Panthers. It may have been a chilly day in Coney Island for BFS baseball, but our commitment, energy, and enthusiasm for BFS student-athletes continued to shine through.
