2/2/12 On Wednesday the BFS Girls Varsity Basketball team picked up its second win in as many days as they defeated Churchill 24-20 at St. Francis College. Both teams got off to a slow start as they got acclimated to playing on the larger court. After one quarter of play the score was 2-2. BFS struggled on offense, they were able to get some good shots at the basket, but nothing was going down. Their defense kept them in the game as they found themselves down 9-5 at the half. Instead of warming up during the halftime break the team decided to rest and talk on the bench. That move payed off for the girls as they turned up in the second half. After three quarters of play BFS now had a one point lead at 12-11. The girls never looked back even when Churchill tied the game at 18 and then again at 20. Junior Janna J. who finished with a game high 15 points and 10 rebounds was able to make a lay up to give BFS a 22-20 lead and then 2 free throws to close things out. Janna had 5 key points in the fourth quarter, as well as sophomore Julia G who scored all 5 of her points during the final period. Junior Herron H.was also a key to the victory with had 6 points and 8 rebounds. She was able to drive to the basket and dish it out to her waiting teammates. It was a great win for the team and the program. This team has really grown during the season. There are no seniors on the current roster, so we are looking forward to the future. Blue Pride!!
2/3/12 The BFS Girls JV Basketball team defeated St. Ann's 30-22 on the road. BFS led 9 to 6 after one quarter of play. They doubled their lead to 6 at the half, 16-10. After three quarters of play the game was tied at 18. BFS played a great fourth quarter. Brooklyn Friends was finally able to pull away in the fourth quarter after discovering how to break St Ann’s tough full court pressure. Maret S-M stepped up, attacking the pressure and then shutting down the St. Ann’s backcourt, she finished with a career high 11 points. The pressure applied by Friends backcourt disrupted St. Ann’s offense causing multiple turnovers. Sarah F. finished with 9 points and Julia B. had 8 points. Blue Pride Runs Deep, Friends Forever...
