for Family Center, Preschool, Kindergarten, and Grade 1 only
In keeping with the established guidelines of the Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York, Brooklyn Friends School may offer an early notification option to legacies—siblings, children of alumni, faculty and staff, and members of the NY Quarterly Meeting. This permits us to notify families with children applying to Family Center, Preschool, Kindergarten and Grade 1 on January 27, 2012, provided that applications are received by Friday, September 16, 2011 and the application process has been completed by Friday December 16, 2011. If you decide to take advantage of this option, the expectation is that if the child is accepted, the child will attend Brooklyn Friends School.
If you are applying for admission for a legacy candidate to preschool, kindergarten, or grade 1, the application deadline is Friday, September 16, 2011. If you choose the Early Notification option, please notify the admissions office of your intention as soon as possible, but not later than December 1, 2011.
If you don’t choose early notification, you may still apply as part of the regular admissions process. We encourage families to consider other school placements in the event that BFS is unable to offer enrollment to the child.
To receive legacy consideration, students must be:
• Siblings: brother or sister to someone who is currently enrolled in BFS and will be enrolled the following school year.
• Children of alumni: applicants whose parents(s) graduated from the 12th grade at BFS.
• Children of faculty & staff: applicant’s parent(s) must be currently employed at BFS.
• Members of the Religious Society of Friends: parents of the applicant must be members of the New York Quarterly Meeting. Quaker families who are members of other Meetings will be given priority after the members of the NY Quarterly Meeting.
