In April 2009, Head of School Michael Nill announced his intent to retire at the end of the 2009-2010 academic year. During his nine years as Head, Michael devoted himself to the betterment of the school and embraced its Quaker mission. We are grateful to him for all he has accomplished.
Following Michael’s announcement, the Board of Trustees began the search process by appointing a Search Committee and retaining a search consultant to assist in the process of recruiting and selecting a new Head of School. The Search Committee is made up of Trustees who represent the various constituencies of the school. They bring a clear understanding of the school’s mission, history, and culture to the work of finding a new Head, along with objectivity, compatibility, diversity, wisdom, and respect for Quaker process.
The decision of whom to hire as the next Head of School rests with the Board of Trustees, which looks to the Search Committee for advice and counsel. The Search Committee bears the primary responsibility for developing a position profile, assessing the qualifications and suitability of candidates and then interviewing them. Smaller
advisory councils, made up of parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and the Quaker community, will also participate in interviews with candidates and provide observations and feedback to the Search Committee.
