Highlights from the PAT General Meeting |
|
The well-attended PAT meeting on Feb. 22 was a wonderful tribute to the parent volunteers who give so much of their time and talents to benefit the school community. At the same time, our parent leaders spoke eloquently about the ways in which their volunteerism at BFS has enriched their school experience. New PAT officers Salome Galib, co-president, and Fiona Forward and Bobi Ahn, executive vice presidents, were introduced by co-president Toukie A. Smith, and the PAT Diversity Committee announced that BFS has joined with Packer and Berkeley Carroll to host a screening of the documentary film, The Prep School Negro, on Monday, March 15, 6:30 pm, at Packer. Attendees also heard from the divisional Vice Presidents, Committee Chairs, and BFS trustees Lisa Sack and Karen Robinson-Cloete.
Toukie expressed her special appreciation to Volunteer Coordinators Susan Antoniou and Melissa Coad for their work in recruiting new volunteers and leaders to the PAT and said there was an urgent need for a volunteer leader to chair the 2010 Winter Festival, which is a benefit for Horizons at BFS. Anyone interested in the position should contact Toukie or the current chair, Laura Bergeron-Mirsky, as soon as possible.

Schoolpop Is Now One Cause |
|
Whatever happened to Schoolpop? Remember that program which earned money for the PAT through purchases made on-line and with a special VISA card? It's still active and has raised nearly $7,500 for the school, but under a new name--One Cause. You can find out more about how to participate at the One Cause website.

PAT – Parents and Teachers: An Overview |
|
The
work of the Parents and Teachers (PAT) Association – of which all parents and
guardians are members – is vital to the health and success of the school. The
PAT leadership consists of the Co-Presidents, Executive Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, Volunteer Coordinators, and Vice
Presidents representing each division, as well as several committee chairs.
Early in the fall, the PAT enlists parents’ help for special events that are
sponsored throughout the year:
Parents
are enlisted to volunteer for work with the admissions office and on the
diversity, community service, and development committees. Parents may volunteer
to become Class Parents and help coordinate such class events as picnics,
potluck dinners, class trips and projects. The Division Heads have regular
meetings with their respective PAT Vice Presidents and Class Parents.
In
addition, the PAT sponsors a Speakers Series that brings distinguished authors
and lecturers to the school several times a year. Past speakers have included
Sara Lawrence Lightfoot, Michael Thompson, Ph.D., Robert Brooks, Ph.D.,
Rosalind Wiseman, Josh Dorfman, and Rev. Paula Lawrence Wehmiller.
